KUALA LUMPUR – An account purportedly representing Education Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin’s communications team has caused quite a stir on Twitterjaya.

The bio of the Twitter account that goes by the name “Radzi Jidin Comms” under the handle @DRJComms says “DRJ – Dr Radzi Jidin’s Communications Team. Official account at @RadziJidin”.

Since joining Twitter this month, the account has been actively tweeting and replying to matters pertaining to the ministry and at press time, it has garnered over 3,400 followers.

It has been particularly active in tweeting on Radzi’s visit to a vocational college in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur after allegations that period spot checks were conducted at the institution last week.

While some Twitter users received the account well by commending the establishment of the account, some took a jab at it.

It caught the eye of Malaysian Twitter users when the account tagged famous Twitter influencers asking them to retweet its posts in hopes that announcements made could reach a wider audience.

“To other influencers like @pedoqpop, @chairman_GLC and others, please help us to retweet. This is not to (recruit) more followers but for announcement purposes.

“When announcements are made, then we can reach a wider audience,” it said.

@pedoqpop, who has 176.1K followers on the platform, quoted the tweet and said “please check my pinned tweet”, referring to the rate of his retweets.

Meanwhile, Twitter user @chairman_GLC, who was also tagged in the initial tweet, responded in jest by asking the admin of the account to provide remuneration in advance for the service.

“What, do you think I work for free?”

Checks by The Vibes found that the tweet by @DRJComms has since been deleted.

However, some netizens managed to take a screenshot of it.

In response, @chairman_GLC jokingly said, “Eh it’s been deleted. This PN (Perikatan Nasional) government is really stingy”.

When contacted separately by The Vibes, the ministry’s corporate communications unit and Radzi’s spokesman both revealed that they had no inkling of the existence of such an account, saying it is the first time that they have heard of it.

“Kindly be informed that the corporate communications unit only manages the official social media account for the ministry under @KemPendidikan,” its officer said.

Meanwhile, attempts made to obtain confirmation from the owner of the account have been met with a muted response. – The Vibes, October 27, 2021
