KUALA LUMPUR – Four cops who were arrested after a ketum-fuelled karaoke party in the Bangi police station in July will not face criminal charges.
Quoting Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed, Malaysiakini reported that the officers from the police station, which include the station chief, will face disciplinary action instead.
He added that an investigation is being conducted by the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Azri Ahmad also told the news portal that it was the deputy public prosecutor who decided to not pursue criminal charges.
On July 21, the raid led by JIPS made headlines across the nation after four cops, along with four of their “female friends”, were arrested at the Bangi police station.
They were found to be participating in karaoke and dancing, and consuming alcohol and ketum-laced drinks in a room fitted with disco lights on the station’s second floor.
Speaking to the press after the incident, Azri said the gathering was in breach of Covid-19 standard operating procedures.
The station chief with the rank of sub-inspector was then suspended from duty after testing positive for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive component of cannabis.
The other officers arrested hold the ranks of corporal and support corporal, while the women were aged between 21 and 37. – The Vibes, October 28, 2021
