KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 6,060 new Covid-19 cases today, taking the cumulative total to 2,460,809 since the virus began spreading early last year.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also recorded 7,297 recoveries today, bringing the total to 2,361,919.
In a statement, he said there are 570 people under intensive care in hospitals, of whom 78 have not been confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 but are being monitored.
In total, 300 people currently require breathing assistance, 208 of which have been confirmed as having Covid-19 and the remaining 92 are still being investigated.
Dr Noor Hisham said that from the 6,060 cases reported today, 105 cases were from categories 3, 4, and 5 with serious symptoms, while 5,955 were from categories 1 and 2 with little or no symptoms.
The country has seen a total of 5,763 clusters since the beginning of the pandemic, including 11 new clusters detected today.
A total of 5,303 clusters have ended while 460 remain active.
Dr Noor Hisham said four clusters originated from the workplace, and two each rose from higher education institutes, education centres, and communities.
The Lot 10 Bentong workplace cluster in Bentong, Temerloh, and Raub, Pahang recorded the highest number of infections with 34 cases.
The Industri PLO Enam Kulai workplace cluster in Kulai, Johor, along with the KM24 Kok Lanas higher education institute cluster in Kota Baru, Kelantan and the Jalan Pahlawan Kluang education centre in Kluang, Johor recorded only 11 cases. – The Vibes, October 29, 2021
