KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia saw another drop in daily Covid-19 cases today with 4,701 infections recorded, taking the cumulative daily cases to 2,501,966, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The country also recorded 5,382 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,407,205.
In his daily Covid-19 statement, Dr Noor Hisham said 28 cases are imported – of which 20 involved Malaysian citizens – with 544 cases under intensive care, while 280 required breathing assistance.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported 47 deaths, including four fatalities that were brought-in-dead.
He said from the 4,701 cases reported today, only 88 (1.9%) are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, while a total of 4,613 (98.1%) are in the less severe Categories 1 and 2.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has logged a total of 5,799 clusters, including three new clusters today.
Clusters that have ended stand at 5,464, while 355 remained active.
On the detection of variants of concern (VOC), Dr Noor Hisham said ongoing studies by the Institute for Medical Research identified 44 cases of the Delta variant, while Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Molecular Biology Institute noted 46 cases.
He said this brings the cumulative VOC and variants of interest (VOI) infections to 3,782 cases – of which 3,522 are from the Delta variant, 226 from the Beta variant, and 14 from the Alpha variant.
Dr Noor Hisham said VOI cases comprise 13 from the Theta variant, four from the Kappa variant, and three from the Eta variant.
All three of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, he said.
The Batu Lapan cluster in Tangkak, Johor, saw 16 cases, the Jalan Bukit Aman workplace cluster in Kepong, Cheras, Lembah Pantai, and Gombak in the Klang Valley recorded six cases, while the Industri Batu 22 Ijok cluster in Kuala Selangor saw eight infections. – The Vibes, November 6, 2021
