KUALA LUMPUR – Fully-vaccinated Malaysians and Singaporeans will soon be able to commute between the two countries without undergoing quarantine, as they will be subjected to Covid-19 tests instead.
The prime ministers (PMs) of both countries in their announcement today said the countries will be launching a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport from November 29 in an effort to restore connections disrupted by the pandemic.
PMs Lee Hsien Loong and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a joint press statement also stated their satisfaction with ongoing discussions on reopening travel across the causeway and the Second Link, while taking into account the public health situations in Johor and Singapore.
“The VTL will allow travel as our two countries gradually reopen our borders responsibly by balancing the need to recover our economies, while ensuring the safety and health of our people from Covid-19,” Ismail Sabri said.
He added that effective implementation of the travel scheme will aid in facilitating the movements of people and goods between Malaysia and Singapore.
“Cross-border travels through the VTL will help revive our economies, restore our people-to-people ties, and strengthen our bilateral relationship,” Lee said. – The Vibes, November 8, 2021
