KUALA LUMPUR – Local company OWA Resources Sdn Bhd is successful in its appeal to the high court to obtain a writ of seizure and sale to enforce a judgement against transgender entrepreneur Nur Sajat.
It is understood that the judgement was obtained after Sajat failed to pay RM200,000 in damages to the company, following a court ruling.
“Nurwati Hussin and Mohamed Syakir Hussin from OWA Resources, the main stockists of Sajat’s girdle business, took action to seize her assets after (she) failed to pay damages following the December ruling last year,” said a statement by a public relations firm representing the plaintiffs.
The Shah Alam High Court exercised the writ of seizure and sale at 10.30am in Sajat’s home located in Kota Damansara.
The assets seized will be auctioned off at market prices to cover damages that were supposed to be paid by Sajat.
According to the statement, the writ has been placed in Sajat’s home, and if no payments are made within 14 days, the court will proceed with the auction on December 14.
They said in the event the auction does not cover the whole judgement sum, further action will be taken to seize other assets for auction.
“The high court’s ruling is a slap towards Sajat’s action of avoiding paying the judgement sum after being found to have breached a commercial contract to supply girdles to the stockists, as agreed upon,” the statement said.
On January 20, Sajat was hauled up to the Shah Alam shariah high court to face charges for cross-dressing at a religious funtion, where she pleaded not guilty.
It is believed that she was arrested by the Selangor Islamic Department on January 6, after a video of herself under distress during the detention went viral on social media.
Sajat absconded from her charges, triggering authorities to issue an arrest warrant over her failure to appear in court.
However, Sajat subsequently fled to Thailand and presently resides in Australia after successfully seeking asylum in the country.
She caused further controversy after confessing to being groped by religious authorities during her arrest to various media outlets.
Sajat has mentioned that she will be appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the United States in January. – The Vibes, November 30, 2021
