KUALA LUMPUR – Newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) will be staying out of the Sarawak polls while providing support to front runner Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
PBM deputy chairman Larry Sng said in a brief Facebook post that members have agreed with the party’s stance.
Sng, who is Julau MP, also wished GPS well, especially its candidates for Meluan and Pakan that are in his parliamentary constituency.
“After discussing with Sarawak leaders of Parti Bangsa Malaysia, we have decided to support GPS in this coming state election.
“I have conveyed our position to YAB CM (Caretaker Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg) when he was in Julau recently and to the two GPS candidates for Meluan and Pakan of our position.
“I am confident that with their good track record they will both win by a larger majority this time around.”
Sarawak heads to the polls on December 18, with nomination day on December 6 and early voting on December 14.
Sng already signalled in late October that he would be sitting out of the state election.
He and fellow former PKR member Steven Choong, as well as another handful of individuals set up a new racially inclusive political party called Parti Bangsa Malaysia in November.
Choong, who is Tebrau MP, told Oriental Daily that the party includes political leaders and workers who share similar ideas on their vision and mission.
“The new party will be taking a diversified path, and we welcome independent parliamentarians to join us. We are also extending a hand to those who have not joined any other political party after quitting PKR.”
He said former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Bersatu president, was disappointed with the formation of the new party as he had been lobbying for Choong and Sng to join Bersatu.
