KEPALA BATAS – Nearly 5,000 residents thronged the Jualan Keluarga Malaysia programme at the Wisma Umno Kepala Batas held for the first time in Penang.

The initiative by Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican offers basic necessities at a lower price.

Because of this, some residents were willing to line up as early as 6.30am, even though the programme only started at 8am.

Reezal said he felt the need to help the people in Kepala Batas, especially when the prices of most daily necessities are soaring.

“I am responding to the call by the prime minister who wants the Jualan Keluarga Malaysia programme to be done in all parliamentary constituencies.

“In fact, I am also committed to continuing this programme every week, until the prices of all necessities are more stable,” he told reporters after visiting the booths today.

The programme was implemented together with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, National Farmers Organisation (Nafas), Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority, Mydin, and Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd.

It is understood that Reezal Merican also helped provide additional subsidies from his own allocation to some items such as meat and poultry.

Meanwhile, Nafas Food Processing and Marketing Sdn Bhd marketing executive KhairulIzzat Basir said that a total of 520 poultry brought by his party were consumed within two hours.

“We were a bit surprised with the reception of the people, because we expected low turnout due to the concerns of the Covid-19 infection.

“However, we are grateful because poultry are in good demand.”

KhairulIzzat said initially Nafas subsidised the selling price of poultry, making it RM8 per bird, and Reezal added a subsidy of RM3 per bird so it can be sold at RM5 per bird today.

“The fresh poultry were processed in Sg Bakap, Seberang Prai Selatan,” he said. – The Vibes, December 5, 2021
