GEORGE TOWN – Penang Development Corporation (PDC) will not end the rental of units at Burmah Square in Jalan Chow Thye.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s confidential secretary Lai Hon Meng in a statement today said the decision was taken during a meeting held at PDC’s headquarters in Bayan Baru last night between PDC executives and 30 tenants of the premises.
“The tenants will not be vacated on January 1,” he said.
PDC was represented by its chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Bazid Abd Kahar, deputy chief executive officer (planning) Aziz Bakar, senior manager of property management Roslan Hassan, and PDC Properties chief executive officer Ismail Issac.
Burmah Square is located in Jalan Chow Thye, Jalan Servis, and Jalan Irrawaddi – where a total of 30 premises have been rented out by PDC.
Lai said during the meeting, tenants were told that their new applications under the new planning permit have been submitted, and have yet to be approved by the management.
“PDC has expressed its willingness to hold subsequent meetings to follow and direct the planning of tenants with the objective of finding the best solution for them,” he said in the statement.
“PDC intends to obtain feedback from all tenants on their plans.
“It will issue a new letter granting rental status in the near future, as the state government is concerned about the interests and welfare of the tenants, and is positive about PDC’s proposal to develop its property to achieve the best value of use,” Lai added. – The Vibes, December 6, 2021
