KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry will leave it up to the private schools when dealing with their teachers who refuse the Covid-19 vaccination.
However, teachers serving in private schools registered with the ministry are required to follow the School Management and Operation Guidelines 3.0 with regard to vaccination.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry also reiterated that teachers in public schools are still subject to rules made by the Civil Service Department.
The ministry pointed towards a circular this year requiring all civil servants including teachers to obtain their two Covid-19 vaccination doses.
“In the event that teachers refuse to comply with these rules, they can be subject to disciplinary actions,” the ministry stated in its written parliamentary reply.
At the same time, the ministry is continuously holding consultations to ensure all teachers receive their vaccines.
“The Education Ministry is implementing various programmes to increase vaccination awareness through civil measures such as encouragement by the state and district education departments,” the ministry added.
On December 9, Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut-BN) queried the Education Ministry over actions taken towards teachers who refuse to be vaccinated.
He further questioned if actions taken by the ministry can be challenged in court, and their plans to ensure swift resolution of this matter. – The Vibes, December 11, 2021
