KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat has allowed a motion by Khalid Samad (Shah Alam-PH) to debate matters concerning the government’s possible acquisition of land in the traditional Malay enclave of Kg Baru in the capital city.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat-Bersatu) told the House that the debate will proceed in a special chamber at 2.30pm today.

Khalid requested a motion to debate the matter last Wednesday, emphasising that the matter is of national interest.

“This specifically involves the government’s action of using the Land Acquisition Act 1960 to nab land away from the residents of Kg Baru.

“This matter is of national interest because the land belongs to people who have lived there for generations,” Khalid said.

Furthermore, he added that the matter requires swift tackling given that residents of Kg Baru were given notices by the Land Office for inspections.

“Where are the voices of the Malay warriors who made noise when Pakatan Harapan (PH) wanted to develop the land?” Khalid said.

He further emphasised that when PH was in power, from May 2018 to February 2020, the administration then did not have to resort to the Land Acquisition Act.

“I want to call those from PAS and Umno, the warriors who opposed PH efforts before.

“Come to the special chamber to debate, and we will see that Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional are far worse,” Khalid added.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim was unfazed by Khalid’s threats, saying that he is prepared to answer any queries that come his way.

“I can also answer now itself if you want,” Shahidan said to Khalid. – The Vibes, December 13, 2021
