KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry has ordered all schools under their supervision to hold anti-bullying campaigns with police during the first week of school next month.
During ministerial Question Time, Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin assured Parliament that his ministry views bullying as a serious issue and constantly takes preventive measures.
He added that his ministry will upgrade and strengthen already available approaches by focusing on “awareness, reporting, punishment and supervision”.
Radzi also said that through teachers, the Education Ministry will attempt to instil key values amongst students to eradicate bullying.
These values include safety, fun, health, ethics, empathy, courtesy, harmony, persistence, thoroughness, skills, exploration, rationalism, and articulacy.
With regards to reporting, Radzi said there is a system already in place allowing schools to inform the ministry over any bullying incidents.
Currently, the Education Ministry is also developing a system to allow students and parents to anonymously report cases.
Radzi also said that given that bullying cases do occur in boarding schools, the Education Ministry will look towards approaches to strengthen the position of wardens to play a better supervisory role. – The Vibes, December 14, 2021
