MIRI – Sarawak PKR called on the state’s one million rural folk to join it in its “green reformation” to stop 60 years of environmental destruction in the state;s forests.
PKR Baram division chief Roland Engan also said there is a need for a “green revolution” in the rural regions of Sarawak.
Engan, a native rights lawyer, is the party’s candidate for the Mulu constituency, located about 200km inland from the city of Miri.
He told reporters here that drastic change will take place if the rakyat gives PKR a chance.
“Vote for us on polling day and help us into the state assembly so that we can fight for all of the rural people of Sarawak.
“We will fight to stop mega-logging projects, uncontrolled clearing of land for gigantic oil palm plantations, monopolies by the big tycoons, and oppression of native customary land by the state government.
“Look at our land and forests that are being subjected to so many destructive projects carried out by the state and their cronies.
“We must start a green campaign on a revolutionary scale,” he said.
In order to stop the oppression of natives from these aspects, Engan said, they needed a strong voice in the state government.
Saying that rural folks should ponder upon the past, present, and future of their communities, Engan called on them to opt for drastic change.
“They can start from this state election onwards by voting for PKR on December 18,” he added.
Sarawak PKR is contesting 27 of the 82 state seats. – The Vibes, December 15, 2021
