KOTA KINABALU – Sabah DAP has pulled out from taking part in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the state’s Pakatan Harapan (Sabah PH) and the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led government.
The party’s state secretary-general Phoong Jin Zhe said the decision was made by the state council following a meeting held two weeks ago.
“We had the meeting to decide whether to enter the MoU discussions and negotiations with the state government.
“This is not even the signing of the MoU as claimed by several parties over the matter.
“We made a unanimous decision not to enter into any kind of collaboration, reform agenda and MoU with the current Sabah government,” he said at Sabah DAP press conference here today.
Also present at the conference were DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang and the Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Frankie Poon.
Luyang assemblyman Phoong said there was no need for an MoU in Sabah because the GRS government has already secured their majority.
He added the situation in Sabah is different than in Peninsular Malaysia where the prime minister only held a slim majority.
Phoong also rubbished some claims that it was Sabah DAP that had been pushing for the MoU, adding that the party has already informed their PH counterparts over the matter.
