MIRI – Sarawak has detected 20 cases of Covid-19 among individuals who came from overseas beginning December 1 until yesterday.
Two Sarawakians who had visited the United States and United Kingdom are among them and they were tested positive with the Omicron variant when in Sarawak, said the state Disaster Management Committee today.
The secretariat said the duo entered Sarawak on December 11 via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“They were negative when they were under quarantine at KLIA but were found positive with Omicron when they arrived in Sarawak. They are being treated.
“We are tightening checks at entry points and on passenger aircrafts entering Sarawak from high-risks countries.
“In November, there were also 18 imported cases in Sarawak.
“Omicron can have a serious effect on those not vaccinated, elderly, and those with illnesses (comorbidities),” the secretariat said, adding that there are 30 new cases statewide today. – The Vibes, December 19, 2021
