KUALA LUMPUR – Kota Kemuning assemblyman Ganabatirau Veraman had to convince a reluctant police officer on duty yesterday to allow him to distribute food in flood-affected areas.
This incident was caught on video and made its rounds on social media.
Ganabatirau was seen explaining that the flood victims desperately needed food, among others.
“(People) there don’t have food. Those people need food. Please allow vehicles transporting food to enter,” he told the officer.
Speaking to The Vibes today, Ganabatirau said police did not allow any aid distribution on that day, but believes they are allowing food distribution again.
“I think after my plea, they reopened (the road blocks) and let them (vehicles) go in.”

However, he said that it is probably a good idea to give the authorities a call and inform them about plans to hand out aid before heading to any affected areas.
The devastating floods that swept several peninsular states over the past few days have caused many to go without food, water, and other basic necessities as well as some who have lost their homes.
As an effort to help the victims, countless members of the public, volunteers, and non-governmental organisation have stepped up to collect and distribute clothes, food, and blankets.
