KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 caseload continues to decline with 2,778 new infections today, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
On Twitter, the health director-general said that this brings the cumulative number of cases to 2,741,179.
Today’s new cases show a drop from the 3,160 infections reported yesterday.
In a statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said that the nation also recorded 3,539 recoveries, bringing the total recovered cases to 2,665,034.
He added that of the new cases reported today, 306 are in intensive care units while 170 of them require respiratory assistance.
“Among the 2,778 cases recorded today, 60 (2.2%) involved patients in Categories 3, 4, and , while 2,718 (97.8%) involved patients in Categories 1 and 2,” he said.
The nation has seen a total of 6,103 clusters since the beginning of the pandemic, including two new clusters detected today.
The number of clusters that have ended are 5,885, while 218 remain active.
While the country records a national Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) of 0.88, the statement noted that Terengganu registered an Rt of 1.00.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that there are currently 35,076 citizens who were affected by the floods, with a total of 418 Covid-19 cases among them.
Besides one Covid-10 case detected in a temporary relief centre (PPS), a total of 193 flood victims also fell prey to infectious diseases.
According to the health director-general, 94 of the cases were due to acute respiratory infection, while 67 individuals were suffering with skin diseases along with 30 cases of acute gastroenteritis.
One case each was also reported for conjunctivitis, and hand, foot and mouth disease. – The Vibes, December 26, 2021
