KUALA LUMPUR – The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has ordered the state disaster management committees of Sabah, Sarawak and Johor to activate their Disaster Operations Control Centres immediately.
Nadma in a statement today also asked the Disaster Operations Control Centres in Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang to be prepared for possible floods, as continuous rain is expected between December 30 and January 1.
According to the forecast by Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), continuous rain is expected in the eastern part of Sabah from December 27 to January 2, western Sarawak from December 29 to December 31, and in Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan from December 30 to January 2.
“The National Disaster Control Centre has already issued a National Disaster Operations Preparedness notice to the states involved to be prepared," it said.
Nadma has also ordered the Hulu Langat district Disaster Operations Control Centre and the one in Bukit Changgang, Kuala Langat to assess the need for pumps in areas where the flood waters have not receded.
“This is for the purpose of coordination with the respective Drainage and Irrigation Departments (DID) and if needed, to get help from DID in other states.
“The state Disaster Operations Control Centres, at the same time, are also urged to coordinate assistance for the flood victims, especially the supply of perishable food to avoid wastage,” it added.
Nadma also announced that flood victims could still obtain food from relief centres and stay there for three days while waiting for the clean–up of their homes to be completed. – Bernama, December 26, 2021
