KOTA KINABALU – A 50-year-old man was detained by police after collecting his items filled with methamphetamine at a courier service office in Inanam, near here.

Sabah deputy police chief Datuk Jauteh Dikun told reporters that the man was arrested on January 4 in the late afternoon at the carpark near the courier service office after 33kg of methamphetamine was found on him.

“The drugs are valued around RM1.2 million and were kept inside aquarium supplies boxes. On January 9, the suspect brought the anti-narcotics officers to an office at the Aeropod Commercial Centre, near the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.

“Two more packages filled with syabu, weighing over 21 kg with the value of RM784,000 was found.

“This takes the value of drugs confiscated to RM199 million, while another RM102,097 in cash was also confiscated from the suspect, which brings the value of drug raid to RM2.09 million,” said Jauteh.

He added that the jobless man also held 17 previous criminal records involving drugs and theft in the past.

Jauteh said the man was not operating alone and could be part of a drug smuggling ring operating in Malaysia.

He added that the arrest was based on the cooperation between the Kuala Lumpur and Sabah anti-narcotics departments. – The Vibes, January 12, 2022
