TAWAU – The Malaysian Armed Forces Joint Task Force 2 (ATB 2) detained 14 irregular migrants trying to enter Sabah late afternoon yesterday.
In a statement issued by the ATB 2 public affairs division today, a Quick Reaction Force team was patrolling the coastal area of Kg Hidayat here when it spotted the group on a speed boat trying to get close to a timber loading jetty.
The migrants were arrested after they got off the boat.
A check on the 14 individuals revealed the individuals detained are Indonesian nationals without any identification documents, believed to have attempted to enter Malaysia via Tawau.
“They comprise four male adults aged between 20 and 53, six women aged between 17 and 69, and three children aged between three and nine.”
The migrants were said to be travelling to Tawau from Sebatik Island with the help of agents and were slated to be sent to another location.
They have since been sent to the Tawau police station for questioning and screened for Covid-19.
