KUCHING – The flight frequency to major destinations in Sarawak has been increased to 562 weekly effective today following the approval of the state Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), state Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said.
With the increase, the weekly flight frequency from outside Sarawak to Kuching would be increased to 279, 127 to Miri, 83 to Sibu, 59 to Bintulu, seven to Limbang and seven to Mulu.
“Now it is up to the airlines to start operating on the new flight frequency. With this increase in flight frequency, SDMC has directed all airlines to resume normal and lower flight fare,” he said in a statement today.
He said the approval was given after SDMC took into consideration various factors, including Sarawak having progressed to Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, more flight requests due to the Chinese New Year celebrations, and a low number of new Covid-19 cases in the state.
This approval also took into account that international travellers going to Sarawak through Peninsular Malaysia would have to be quarantined in Kuala Lumpur, besides promoting Sarawak tourism industry. – Bernama, January 14, 2022
