MIRI – Limbang and Bintulu districts in northern Sarawak are seeing heavy rain, with Limbang already hit by floods. The Sarawak Public Communications Unit today said the district is seeing rising waters now.
“The heavy rain started Tuesday evening (last night),” it said in a statement providing a flood update.
“It continued until this morning and floods have hit several villages.
“Kg Bangkita is now under two feet of water (0.7m),” added the unit, which is the public information mouthpiece of the state government.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel are being deployed into the flooded zones. Residents have been told to prepare for evacuation.
In the meantime, the authorities in Bintulu are also on alert for possible flood occurrences. This follows heavy rain that came during the night hours.
The unit said the Bintulu authorities are checking on water levels at the rivers and monsoon drains to monitor the water volume.
Sarawak is seeing heavy rain in numerous districts. So far, there has been no large-scale evacuation.
Only Kg Seduan in Sibu saw an evacuation of some 50 people to the Kg Jeriah community hall during a sudden flash flood last week. They have since returned home after floodwaters receded. – The Vibes, January 19, 2022
