LANGKAWI – Many islanders have begun praying for former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been readmitted to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur. 

The 96-year-old is now placed in the cardiac care unit of the facility he founded. 

Air Hangat assemblyman Datuk Juhari Bulat said that the majority of the residents here are hoping for the best. 

Many villagers here grew up knowing Mahathir as one of their most renowned statesmen. 

“There is no denying what Mahathir has done for the island. He is our revered figure.”

Mahathir, who is Langkawi MP, has been instrumental in the development of the island as a premier tourism destination since 1987. 

Tourism players also expressed hope for the best for the legendary figure.

Langkawi Businesses Association deputy president Datuk Issac Alexander said that Mahathir has done wonders here, and that the people are concerned about his condition. 

Tourism veteran Ahmad Pishol Isahak said that residents can only hope for the best outcome. – The Vibes, January 22, 2022
