GEORGE TOWN – Penang has unveiled a RM1 million one-off financial assistance fund for creative economy practitioners to help mitigate the detrimental impact caused by the pandemic and spur the industry’s recovery.
Penang executive councillor for tourism and creative economy Yeoh Soon Hin said the allocated budget for this will benefit more than 1,000 eligible creative bodies and individuals.
“The creative sector is still grappling with the pandemic. To survive this turbulent period, we hope that this financial assistance can somewhat alleviate their monetary burden and give them some much needed cash flow,” he said in a statement.
Yeoh said that creative groups and individuals that fulfil the criteria under the aid scheme will each receive RM1,000 and RM500 respectively.
Applications for this one-off special financial assistance must be submitted digitally via a Google Form available at www.pdc.gov.my from January 23 to February 28.
Those eligible include artists, artisans, cultural practitioners, and societies in educational institutions or schools.
