KUALA LUMPUR – Former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Mohamad Jemuri Serjan died at 8.30am today at Kuching’s Normah Medical Specialist Centre. He was 92.

The Borneo Post reported that Jemuri will be laid to rest today at a Muslim cemetery in Gita, Kuching.

It was reported that Jemuri was nominated as chief judge by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and held the post from June 24 until September 9, 1994.

He was born on September 10, 1929 in Kuching to Serjan Wakijan and Jede Othman. He had four siblings.

He received his early education at government school Madrasah Melayu and secondary school education at St Joseph’s School, and later completed his Cambridge School Certificate in 1950.

His legal career started when he joined the Sarawak administrative service.

He was appointed assistant attorney-general on November 8, 1966 and state AG in 1973. He retired in 1984.

However, he was rehired on contract basis until December 31, 1989. Then, he was appointed chief justice of Borneo on March 11, 1991 and retired on September 9, 1994. – The Vibes, January 26, 2022
