KUALA LUMPUR – Newly-minted political party, Muda, is set to make its debut for the upcoming Johor polls.
This was confirmed by the party’s vice-president Muthalib Uthman who said the decision was made following the party’s executive committee meeting last night.
“I can say one thing. Muda will contest in the Johor election,” Muthalib said when contacted by The Vibes.
However, it remains unconfirmed if Muda will cooperate with other parties in the upcoming polls.
On Monday, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed Pakatan Harapan’s willingness to work with other opposition parties including Muda, Pejuang and Warisan in the Johor election.
Yesterday, Muthalib told The Vibes that Muda still believes in a “united opposition”, and the party would discuss Anwar’s offer for cooperation at their executive committee meeting last night.
There were no revelations as to which Muda members will contest in Johor – but Muda’s president and founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will most likely be in the running for a state seat.
“Personally, if Muda agrees to contest in the Johor polls, Syed Saddiq should be one of the candidates in the forefront,” Muthalib said yesterday.
Another possible candidate touted to contest a seat in Johor is Muda’s secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.
However, party sources have yet to confirm her participation in the polls.
On Saturday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad announced the dissolution of the state assembly after an audience with Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
The Election Commission is expected to hold a special meeting to discuss matters relating to the Johor polls including dates for nomination and voting. – The Vibes, January 26, 2022
