KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases continue to soar as the country logged 5,522 infections today, bringing the cumulative caseload to 2,838,375.
Over the past few days, the country has witnessed a steady rise in daily infections as Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin recently warned that the Omicron variant has already entered Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the CovidNow website states there were 10 deaths reported yesterday, of which three were brought-in-dead cases.
Out of the 5,522 cases detected today, 373 were imported.
Meanwhile, 127 infections require treatment in intensive care (ICU) while 70 require ventilator support.
Some 99.3% (5,483) of today’s daily cases comprise infections under Categories 1 and 2, while 0.7% (39) are in Categories 2, 4 and 5.
Currently, the R-nought value or infectivity rate for Malaysia has gone up to 1.15 compared with yesterday.
Negri Sembilan records the highest infectivity rate at 1.21, Kedah (1.16), Johor (1.14), Penang (1.1), Kuala Lumpur (1.08), Putrajaya (1.07), Selangor (1.07), Melaka (1.07), Kelantan (1.05), Sabah (1.04), Pahang (1.03), Perak (0.99), and Terengganu (0.97).
Perlis, Labuan and Sarawak all record an R-naught value of zero.
Additionally, from January 25 to January 28, the Health Ministry reports 62 infections from Delta variants.
As for clusters, 23 new ones were identified by the ministry today, with 289 remaining active. – The Vibes, January 28, 2022
