GEORGE TOWN – Delta has emerged as Penang’s top Covid-19 variant as at January 28 according to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal, with the state registering 413 cases.
This is followed by 20 Omicron and 10 Beta cases.
Penang health and agriculture and food industries committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin said the state, until noon today, had registered a total of 304 new cases, cumulatively bringing the case numbers to 167,724 here.
In a statement issued today, Dr Norlela said in the last two weeks, the Timur Laut district registered 53 cases, Barat Daya (84), Seberang Prai Utara (54), Seberang Prai Tengah (33) and Seberang Prai Selatan (21).
The state accumulated a total of 1,573 active cases.
“From the 304 new cases, 278 cases involved locals, while 26 cases were foreigners.
“We have also identified 14 active clusters, including an educational institution cluster, a workplace cluster, a construction site cluster, a high-risk community cluster and a religious cluster.
“The Barat Daya district has recorded the highest number of cases in the last week.
“The construction site cluster has a total of 122 cases, the social cluster has 106 cases, the workplace cluster has 18 cases, the industrial cluster in Bukit Minyak has 10 cases, and the Permatang Pauh religious school cluster has 19 cases,” Dr Norlela added. – The Vibes, January 31, 2022
