KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily caseload continues to increase with 5,736 new infections today, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today. 

The health director-general added that this brings the cumulative number of cases to 2,882,060. 

Today’s caseload shows a slight increase from yesterday’s recorded cases of 5,566.

Besides that, the nation also recorded 3,196 recoveries, making the total recovered cases 2,790,386. 

He added that of the new cases reported today, 112 are in intensive care units while 54 of them require respiratory assistance. 

“Among the 5,736 cases recorded today, 46 (0.8%) involved patients in Categories 3, 4, and 5 while 5,690 (99.2%) involved patients in Categories 1 and 2,” he said. 

The nation has seen a total of 6,442 clusters since the beginning of the pandemic, including eight new clusters detected today. 

The number of clusters that have ended are at 6,120 while 322 remain active. 

While the nation records a national Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) of 1.15, the statement noted that Perlis registered the highest rate at 1.29. 

The health director-general also said that the Health Ministry will be monitoring Covid-19 infections both in and out of the country through information provided by the World Health Organisation.
