KUALA LUMPUR – Daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia skyrocketed to a staggering 10,089 cases today, bringing the total cumulative number of cases to 2,914,220.

According to a tweet by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today, Selangor has the highest number of cases with 2,549 cases, followed by Johor with 1,582 cases.

This is the first time cases have breached the 10,000 mark in over four months. 

The last time cases passed the mark was on October 2, 2021 when the country logged 10,915 infections.

He added that detailed information will be updated on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website after midnight.

Dr Noor Hisham also tweeted that only 17 of today’s cases are under Category 4 and in need of oxygen, and eight cases under Category 5 in need of ventilator support. 

24,6% (2,482) of today’s cases are under Category 1, followed by 74.64% (7,530) in Category 2 and 0.51% (52) of cases in Category 3.

Based on the CovidNow portal, yesterday’s daily positive cases hit 9117 cases, with 8983 local cases and 134 imported cases.

Following the number of yesterday’s daily cases, Dr Noor Hisham said that the national infection rate has reached 1.20.

With the current infection rate, Malaysia is expected to hit 22,000 cases by the end of March. – The Vibes, February 6, 2022
