KOTA BARU – Riding under the influence of drugs was among the offences recorded in a special operation dubbed Op Bersepadu that targeted motorcyclists, held last night in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2022 holidays, said Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) acting director Nik Azhan Ab Hadi.

He said that motorcyclists riding under the influence of drugs usually fail to brake in time and tend to speed, as well as show off their skills doing wheelies and “superman” (lying prone while riding) tricks.

“During the operation, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) conducted eight screening tests and two motorcyclists tested positive,” he told reporters after the operation here last night.

He said personnel from various agencies, namely RTD, Royal Malaysia Police, AADK, Immigration Department, Environment Department, and National Registration Department were involved in the integrated operation.

Nik Azhan said statistics showed that motorcyclists contributed the most to the country’s road accident fatality rate.

“The enforcement strategy was to detect motorcyclists and pillion riders under the influence of drugs at the state’s main roads so they do not endanger themselves and other road users,” he said.

In a related development, Nik Azhan said that from January 25 until yesterday, 25 motorcycle technical-related offences were recorded and 332 summonses were issued, including confiscating four vehicles.

“115 summonses were issued for expired motor vehicle licences and another 114 summonses were issued for driving without a valid licence,” he added. – Bernama, February 7, 2022
