KUALA LUMPUR – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor needs to realise that he was not elected by the people in the last general election, said Umno’s Johor deputy chairman.
Utusan Malaysia reported Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed as saying that the mandate held by Sanusi at this time is the result of Umno’s support.
“Sanusi, don’t talk too much.
“He also became a menteri besar who was not elected by the people.
“Umno, which he said was unstable, is the entity who helped him become the menteri besar.
“If it was not for Umno, he would not have had the opportunity to become the menteri besar.
“Ask him to seek a mandate from the people, then he can talk about Umno again,” he said.
Sanusi was previously reported as saying that Malaysia would attain political stability if Umno no longer ruled.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob challenged his claim, saying that the government of the day is an Umno government and that he (Ismail Sabri) had garnered support from all parties to assume the role of prime minister.
The Kedah menteri besar, however, defended his statement by making reference to political stability in some states where Umno had a small number of seats.
Jazlan said Sanusi should be more careful when issuing any statements to avoid portraying himself as a leader who does not have credibility.
Sanusi was appointed menteri besar of Kedah in May 2020. The appointment received the support of Perikatan Nasional comprising PAS, Bersatu and Umno, which succeeded in forming the state government after garnering the support of 23 elected representatives.
The post was previously held by Kedah Bersatu chairman, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who was appointed as the 13th Kedah menteri besar on May 11, 2018.
Mukhriz, who is Jitra assemblyman, was sworn in as menteri besar for the second time after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election on May 9, 2018. – The Vibes, February 16, 2022
