KOTA KINABALU – Covid-19 infections continued to soar in Sabah today, with 5,082 cases recorded.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 59.06% of the daily cases are symptomatic or sporadic infections.
“The majority of the infections in Kota Kinabalu reported 1,086 cases, followed by Sandakan (500), Penampang (463), Tuaran (421), Papar (313), and Tawau (310),” he said via Twitter here today.
Masidi said 99.72% of the cases are in Category 1 and 2, with three cases in Category 3, 10 in Category 4, and one in Category 5.
Two new clusters were also reported involving schools, with 604 children below the age of 11 found positive.
Yesterday, Sabah reported a total of 4,373 cases.
Masidi said the Jalan Bandau cluster involved an 18-year-old hostel student of SMK Kota Marudu I as the index case on February 9.
“Screening on close contacts found 95 more cases as at February 16,” he said.
Masidi said the second cluster is identified as the Jalan Sokid cluster in Ranau.
A 24-year-old contract worker at SMK Bundu Tuhan has been identified as the index case.
Screening found 27 more cases among students and other close contacts, he said.
At present, 2,962 people are being treated at the various health facilities across Sabah, which has 4,319 beds at present.
Occupancy rate at hospitals stood at 81.51% while 61.90% were at low risk quarantine centres and 55.15% in temporary detention centres.
Masidi also noted that there are now 45 patients in critical care, 41 in intensive care units and four in the open ward, while 21 more patients are on ventilation.
In another development, a quick check on several local stores around town found that test kits are still available, but operators claim that the supply of Panadol is running out.
Almost all pharmacies located near Gaya Street in town said the supply of Panadol had been snapped up since yesterday.
“Now we are forced to sell other medicine that has the same effect as Panadol,” said a pharmacist, who wished to remain anonymous. – The Vibes, February 16, 2022
