KUALA LUMPUR – There were 135 new cases of the Omicron variant and 33 new Delta infections detected between February 13 and 19, according to the Health Ministry.
This brings the cumulative total of variant of concern (VOC) and variant of interest (VOI) cases to 7,754. Of this, 6,537 are Delta cases, Omicron (950), Beta (233) and Alpha (14).
As for VOIs, there are 13 Theta cases, Kappa (4) and Eta (3).
Between February 13 and 19, Sarawak tops the list with 77 Omicron cases and 15 Delta infections, followed by Johor with 15 each of Omicron and Delta, Melaka and Selangor each has 10 Omicron cases while Kuala Lumpur has nine.
Cumulatively, Sarawak has the most Delta cases with 2,807 while Selangor logs the most Omicron cases at 253.
The ministry added that the Institute of Health and Community Medicine in Unimas identified 92 of the new cases in the genomic survey, followed by UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute with 39 and Institute for Medical Research with 37.
Malaysia has yet again breached the 27,000 threshold with its daily caseload of 27,808, while also reporting another 36 deaths as of midnight yesterday, according to the CovidNow portal.
The newly reported numbers bring the cumulative case total to 3,166,023 and the death toll to 32,276.
According to Health Ministry data, there were 11 brought-in-dead victims, with a total of 6,551 cases.
