KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 cases recorded a slight dip yesterday with 26,832 cases today compared to the nationwide high of 28,825 on Saturday.
Yesterday’s infections brought the cumulative cases to 3,221,680. Despite the high number of cases, only 0.5% (or 133 cases) have reported severe symptoms and are classified under Categories 3, 4 and 5.
A total of 11 deaths were also reported in the past day, including six brought-in-dead.
Additionally, the country recorded 18,459 recoveries yesterday.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said at present, 261 individuals are currently admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), of which 98 are confirmed positive, and the remaining are suspected of infection.
Of this, 139 require breathing support, he said in a statement today.
The overall ICU bed usage for Covid-19 cases nationwide currently stands at 30%, with Johor seeing ICU bed usage at 70%, Kuala Lumpur (65%) and Melaka (50%) – the top three states.
With the recent surge in cases, the number of non-ICU Covid-19 admissions has also seen an increase, with 63% of bed capacity currently filled.
Selangor’s bed capacity shows the highest number at 104%, followed by Perlis (101%), Kelantan (96%), Perak (91%), Putrajaya (82%), Johor (82%), Sabah (79%), Kuala Lumpur (77%), Penang (50%) and Terengganu (48%).
Meanwhile, the health director-general said with the latest infections, Malaysia’s R-naught (infectivity rate) now stands at 1.21, with Labuan, Sarawak and Sabah recording the highest numbers at 1.71, 1.48 and 1.40 respectively. – The Vibes, February 21, 2022
