MIRI – Around 255,000 Sarawakians are still hesitant to obtain their Covid-19 booster jabs, said the state’s Assistant Minister for Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Speaking on his social media platforms, the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator said that this new trend is a very worrying development as Omicron infections are surging again throughout Sarawak.

He added that in Sibu district alone, roughly 25,000 eligible adults have not received their booster shots.

“Throughout the state, as many as 255,000 Sarawakian adults have not gone for their booster shot appointments.

“Despite being eligible for the booster shots and given time slots (via their MySejahtera apps), they have not gone for their appointments at the health clinics.

“Omicron infections are surging again in Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and other parts of the state. Those who have not received booster injections yet must take urgent steps to get them fast,” said the Nangka assemblyman.

The cities he mentioned are seeing triple-digit increases in Omicron cases every day.

Dr Annuar stressed that booster shots are crucial to prevent severe infections and advised those without to get themselves inoculated at the nearest health facility.

He also said that Sarawakians should avoid crowded places and stay at home as much as possible, while observing standard operating procedures such as wearing facemasks and practicing personal hygiene.

Sarawak has seen almost 400 new Covid-19 infections daily over the past few days, with two new deaths reported since last weekend. – The Vibes, February 23, 2022
