KUALA LUMPUR – Australia is opening its borders to all fully vaccinated visa holders including tourists and business travellers without any exemptions.
Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Justin Lee on Twitter, said the relaxed rules for travel means that fully vaccinated Malaysians can reunite with family and friends in Australia.
He also said that Malaysians can now finally enjoy the long-held plans to visit Australia’s unique tourism destinations.
“Before confirming your travel arrangements please ensure you have read and complied with all requirements for all vaccinated travellers entering Australia,” he said in a Twitter thread this afternoon.
“Please ensure you hold a valid visa. We recommend lodging visa applications at least one month in advance of travel at the current time. Due to Covid-19, visa processing times have been affected and applications may take longer to finalise.
He said those wanting to travel to Australia can visit the Australian Home Affairs Department website for more information.
On February 7, Australian Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said Australia will open to all fully vaccinated visa holders from February 21 onwards.
Andrews said these changes will ensure the health of Australians are protected, while the government continues its efforts on economic recovery.
“Australia’s health system has demonstrated its resilience throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, including through the recent Omicron wave.
“With improving health conditions, including a recent 23% decline in hospitalisations due to Covid-19, the National Security Committee today agreed that Australia is ready to further progress the staged reopening of our international border,” Andrews said.
Australia has welcomed almost 580,000 arrivals since the Morrison government reopened their international borders on November 1, last year.
He also said that the Commonwealth continues to work with the states and territories to ensure safe resumption of the cruise industry and will issue further announcements in due course. – The Vibes, February 23, 2022
