KOTA KINABALU – The number of daily Covid-19 infections in Sabah saw a sharp increase of 921 cases after the state registered a total of 4,892 new Covid-19 cases today.
According to Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in his update today, 99.53% of today’s cases (4,869 cases) are in Categories 1 and 2 (mild), while five are in Category 3, 13 in Category 4, and five cases in Category 5.
Kota Kinabalu district contributed the most to the daily numbers with 1,947 cases, an increase of 1,212 cases from yesterday.
Kota Kinabalu is the only district that recorded over 500 new cases today. Tuaran district recorded the second-highest number of new cases at 425, followed by Penampang (415), Papar (290), Tawau (208), Kota Belud (207), Beaufort (194), Sandakan (192), Keningau (144), and Lahad Datu (100).
The state also recorded seven Covid-19 related deaths today, in Tuaran (2), Penampang (1), Kota Kinabalu (1), Keningau (1), Kota Marudu (1) and Kudat (1).
Of today’s new cases, a total of 531 cases involved children under 11 years old who have yet to receive vaccination, with 241 of them being children who are not eligible to be vaccinated (under five years old).
Meanwhile, Masidi said that a total of 34,713 (8.44%) out of 411,400 children aged five to 11 have received their first dose of vaccination.
He also noted that out of 4,552 available beds for Covid-19 patients in Sabah, usage is at 53.31% today. – The Vibes, February 24, 2022
