KUALA LUMPUR – The Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSC) on International Affairs will be calling on the Foreign Ministry to brief it on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine next week.
Its member Sim Tze Tzin said in a Facebook post today that he will be grilling the ministry this week over the Kremlin’s unprovoked aggression.
“Malaysia must make a strong stand and join the world community in condemning Russian aggression.
“This week, the Parliamentary Special Select Committee will invite Wisma Putra to brief on Malaysia’s stand in Ukraine. As a member of the committee, I will ask tough questions so that Malaysia will do the right thing in this crisis,” said the Bayan Baru MP.
The opposition lawmaker also called out Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for what he claims to be a “weak” response towards Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Recalling the fact that Malaysian lives had also been lost during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine when Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by pro-Russian separatists, Sim said the Bera MP’s statement on the matter yesterday was “disappointing”.
“The statement is weak and lacks conviction and fails to represent what Malaysia stands for: a peaceful, rule-based international order and conflict resolution by peaceful means.
“The ‘Situation in Ukraine’ statement didn’t even call out Russia who has invaded Ukraine. Why is the prime minister so afraid to call out the aggressor?
“The “Situation in Ukraine” statement has just exposed the situation in Putrajaya, weak leadership without conviction in international affairs.
“Malaysia is a victim of the long conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Malaysian Airlines MH17 was purportedly shot down by pro-Russian separatists.
“A weak statement like this is a disappointment for many victims whose families are still seeking truth and justice through various international courts,” said Sim. – The Vibes, February 27, 2022
