KUALA LUMPUR – An Indonesian man died in police custody at Hospital Bintulu after complaining of shortness of breath.
Yesterday at 11.15am, Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department was informed of a 48-year-old suspect who died under the custody of the Bintulu district police headquarters.
According to a statement by department director Datuk Azri Ahmad, the suspect arrested under the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, was temporarily placed in the Bintulu police headquarters.
He added that the man yesterday complained of shortness of breath and was sent to Bintulu Hospital for treatment. The hospital later reported that the man died, and his cause of death is listed as unknown.
The investigation into the death will be conducted by the standards compliance department and its Criminal Investigation Unit on deaths in custody.
This appears to be the 12th custodial death reported this year. – The Vibes, March 6, 2022
