KUALA LUMPUR – The country’s capital city more than doubled its daily Covid-19 caseload to 4,527 from the previous 2,181, according to CovidNow data as of midnight.
Kuala Lumpur’s fresh infections make up part of Malaysia’s daily caseload of 31,490, bringing the cumulative total to 3,680,953.
Selangor remains the state with the most cases with 8,095 while Kedah continues to see a surge in cases, logging another 3,015 infections.
This is followed by Penang with 2,425 cases, Sarawak (1,903), Negri Sembilan (1,883), Johor (1,721), Kelantan (1,647), Pahang (1,409), Perak (1,279), Terengganu (1,277), and Sabah (1,216).
Only four states recorded a caseload under 1,000 – Melaka (554), Putrajaya (201), Perlis (190) and Labuan (148).
Meanwhile, another 79 deaths were recorded, of which 19 were brought-in-dead, bringing the toll to 33,384, with Johor reporting 16 victims, followed by 13 each in Kedah and Perak.
Selangor has 11 deaths, followed by five each in Sabah and Pahang, four in Kelantan, three in Melaka; two each in Penang, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya; and one in Negri Sembilan. Perlis and Labuan recorded zero deaths.
Malaysia logged another 11 clusters, bringing the total of active clusters to 445. Of the new clusters, six are categorised as education, three workplace, and one community and one high-risk group.
The one with the most infections is the Jalan Padang Tembak Kluang education cluster with 59 cases and a 36.4% positivity rate.
It is followed by Melaka’s Jalan Ramuan Cina Besar education cluster with 27 infections and a positivity rate of 93.1% and Selangor’s Kg Hala 2 with 25 cases with a 30.9% rate.
The rest of the education clusters logged below 20 cases each – Kuala Lumpur’s Dua Taman Koperasi with 14 cases, Johor’s Jalan Tajul 2 (12) and Penang’s Jalan Pokok Sena (11).
The Jalan PC 10 2 workplace cluster in Perak logged 15 infections, followed by Selangor’s Industri Tok Khalifah cluster logging 12 cases, and seven infections in Johor’s Jalan Dahlia 30 workplace cluster.
Perak’s Kg Bukit Asu community cluster has 16 cases while Selangor’s Jalan Bukit Kuda high-risk group cluster recorded 15 cases.
The country’s ICU bed usage increased to 59.2% with Kelantan logging 84.2%, Johor (75.4%), Kuala Lumpur (74.2%), Putrajaya (70.0%), Selangor (64.3%), Penang (62.4%), Perak (59.8%), Sabah (55.9%), Pahang (53.4%) and Melaka (51.1%).
All states except Labuan have recorded a hospitalisation rate above 50% – Kedah (84.1%), Terengganu (81.5%), Melaka (81.1%), Penang (78.2%), Johor (76.7%), Perlis (74.6%), Kelantan (73.1%), Pahang (73.0%), Negri Sembilan (72.4%), Selangor (71.4%), Perak (66.1%), Sarawak (65.3%), Sabah (59.5%), Kuala Lumpur (57.3%) and Putrajaya (53.5%).
This comes amid Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement yesterday to transition towards the endemic phase of Covid-19 starting April 1 this year.
Among the restrictions that will be lifted are unrestricted travel with special permission from the Immigration Department, no quarantine period for fully vaccinated travellers with testing, more vaccinated travel lanes, and domestic travel for all, regardless of their vaccination status. – The Vibes, March 9, 2022
