MIRI – The Institute of Health and Community Medicine of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak has warned that the BA.2 type of Omicron is becoming the dominant subvariant in the state.
That type, which is the more aggressive subvariant of Omicron, has been detected in several locations in Sarawak.
“Of the 686 Covid-19 cases we sampled recently, we found that about 90% of them were BA.2 Omicron subvariant.
“This is the dominant variant circulating now via community transmission,” said institute head Dr David Perera in a statement.
He warned the public to continue adhering to all health SOPs such as wearing masks, physical distancing and good personal hygiene.
He also urged those who have yet to get their vaccine booster shots to do so at the soonest. – The Vibes, March 12, 2022
