KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Tommy Thomas will not be let off the hook if investigations conducted by the government found offences against the former attorney-general, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Speaking at the Umno general assembly, the party vice-president said the special committee formed to probe into allegations made by Thomas in his book will be submitting an interim report to the cabinet next month.

“I give you my promise that if any wrongdoing is found, I will take action against Thomas,” he said to the applause of thousands of delegates present for the party's annual meeting here today.

Ismail Sabri said this is part of the government’s commitment to ensure justice is served and transparency is preserved.

The special team investigating the matter was formed in October to look into the allegations made by Thomas in his book My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, which garnered heavy criticism for supposedly containing elements of incitement, insult and slander.

In addition, Ismail Sabri announced that the government had made a RM1.5 million ex gratia payment to the family of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who died during a riot at a Hindu temple in December 2018.

The payment was made last November 29, he said, claiming this proved Umno’s commitment and sincerity in defending the fate of the rakyat.

He added that an interim report into the probe of Adib’s death will be presented to him by the end of this month.

Separately, the prime minister told the Umno general assembly that the royal commission of inquiry to investigate alleged abuses in Lembaga Tabung Haji is expected to complete its probe by July.

An announcement on the findings will be made public, he added. – The Vibes, March 19, 2022
