SHAH ALAM – Newly minted DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook is confident that his appointment as one of the top leaders has ushered in a new era for the party.

This comes as outgoing secretary-general Lim Guan Eng assumes the role of national chairman, while Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo will maintain his position as national deputy chief.

Also, recently retired Lim Kit Siang has been given the honorary position as party mentor.

In his first public address as DAP sec-gen, Loke said the Pakatan Harapan component has entered its third generation of leadership since its formation in 1965.

He added that a breath of life in the party will only bring about a more glorious era for the party.

“The first generation of leaders such as Lim Kit Siang, and second-generation leaders like Lim Guan Eng, are making way for the younger talents within the party, such as myself, who can lead with a fresh leadership style,” he said, after the party’s congress meeting at the IDCC Convention Centre, here, today.

He added that he is committed to ensuring that powers within DAP are united in their shared goal of elevating the party to its highest potential.

Loke, who is Seremban MP, also expressed his intention to lead the party in an inclusive manner by ensuring that every individual part of the party, regardless of their position, are given the space to contribute based on their respective abilities.

“Future central executive committee (CEC) meetings will see more appointments being made as we form additional bureaus so that every leader can play their role under the designation of specific tasks,” he said.

“DAP members will also be provided the chance to volunteer their services to the party.”

Loke also expressed gratitude to previous party leaders who had built the party up to its current state.

Loke’s appointment was announced after he gained 1,625 votes out of 2,179 during the party polls, placing him in third place behind Gobind, and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
