GEORGE TOWN – There is much fanfare in Penang as former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has set foot in the state for the first time in three years since he last visited in 2019.

The Pekan MP is seeing a warm welcome here as he is greeted by “Bossku” banners being put up around town, while a group of his Chinese supporters welcomed him at the Penang International Airport here last night.

He is expected to deliver a keynote address at the 2nd Penang International Business and Investment Summit at the Setia Spice Convention Centre here.

He will also be making his rounds at eateries in Weld Quay, Jelutong, Bukit Mertajam and Machang Bubok before attending the summit’s dinner later today.

Najib will also be meeting the Penang Umno leadership tomorrow before visiting one of the oldest Indian Muslim restaurants here.

However, not all are happy about his visit. Social activist Anil Netto has questioned why some people are welcoming a convict in Penang and treating him like a celebrity.

There is also chatter over local WhatsApp groups questioning Najib’s visit. – The Vibes, March 25, 2022
