GEORGE TOWN – Penang’s future will be more secure if the state returns to Barisan Nasional (BN), said former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He added that it is time for the people of Penang to rethink the state’s future.
“I see that in Penang, there is an awareness that they have been deceived as many promises have not been fulfilled.
“I am confident that BN’s performance will be better but whether it wins depends on other factors,” he said when met by reporters at the sidelines of the 2nd Penang International Business and International Summit at Spice Arena today.
Najib said BN had never sidelined Penang even though the state had been governed by the opposition since 2013, and this was proven through various large-scale projects implemented by the federal government in the past.
“However, close relations with the federal government is an important factor in the state’s development.”
When asked if he is campaigning early for Chinese voters in Penang, he denied doing so.
“I did not come here to campaign. I just want to meet the people. I am not only meeting the Chinese community, tomorrow I will meet Penang Umno.”
Najib arrived in Penang at about 10pm yesterday. He is expected to attend several programmes with the Chinese community during his two-day visit. – The Vibes, March 25, 2022
