MIRI – Yet another longhouse has gone up in flames in Sarawak. Firefighters are battling to douse the blaze on a double-storey longhouse in remote inland Saratok district.
The state Fire and Rescue Department just now said fire already consumed 75% of the Rumah Joshua Mitas longhouse building at about noon.
Saratok Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency alert about the incident at about 10.30am and rushed a few fire units to the site.
The longhouse is located in Ulu Awek, accessible from the Pan Borneo Highway’s Saratok section.
“So far, the building is about 75% burnt, with 11 residential units affected.
“There are no reported casualties or serious injuries from the site so far,” Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in a press update.
The cause of the fire and the number of occupants affected are yet to be ascertained. – The Vibes, March 26, 2022
