KUALA LUMPUR – PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he will not make a rushed decision to contest for the party’s deputy president post in the upcoming party elections.
According to Astro Awani, the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentarian said this was because it was important for him to gain the views of the party’s leadership at all levels before running for the number two post in May.
He said, however, that his intention would only be to celebrate the party’s democratic process in providing members with choices in the event that he ran for deputy president.
“It has become a habit that all my big decisions must involve all levels of the leadership. Therefore, I am still in that process and when the right time comes, I will make that decision,” he told a press conference after officiating the Lembah Pantai branch’s annual meeting here this afternoon.
“When the time comes, I accept that the party’s constitution respects the democratic process of selection and if I decide to do so, it means that I want to celebrate the process of democracy, and provide the freedom of selection.”
Saifuddin also vowed to not allow the party election to affect the camaraderie among its members.
He said whatever he decides would be in the interest of adding value to the party.
On March 15, PKR’s Rafizi Ramli announced his return to active politics, saying he was vying to become the party’s deputy president in the coming party polls.
Rafizi alleged that the Pakatan Harapan leadership was exploring the prospect of working alongside Perikatan Nasional in the next general election.
He also lamented the loss in Johor, which marked the fourth defeat for the party and PH after Sabah in 2020, and Melaka and Sarawak last year.
Rafizi’s return to active politics also riled up former Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador, who said the move implied that the former Pandan MP would take on party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. – The Vibes, March 27, 2022
