MIRI – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) lawmakers are sending a clear message that former Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) member and Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat is not welcomed in the ruling coalition.
GPS lynchpin Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu’s vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said the coalition does not need Masir for the Sri Aman seat in the coming general election as GPS has its own candidate.
“Those who jump from party to party are merely desperately searching for political survival. We in GPS have no room for him.
“Even though he is a friend, I think what he is doing by jumping parties is not acceptable.
“We GPS have our candidate for Sri Aman for the coming election, so there is no room for him in GPS,” he told reporters in Kuching.
Meanwhile, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan yesterday urged GPS to not take in Masir, who has just resigned from PSB to become a government-friendly independent.
PRS, which is a GPS component party, said it will not accept Masir and GPS should do the same as well.
“Masir’s sudden resignation shows how urgent it is to have anti-party hopping law in place now. Loyalty to the party must be upheld by all politicians,” he said in a statement.
In a statement on Wednesday, Masir declared his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, although he did not disclose if he will be joining the government or any other political outfits.
“I am resigning from PSB after consulting my grassroot supporters. My resignation takes immediate effect. I declare full support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“I support his leadership as he is doing all he can to help Malaysians through the difficult period we are facing now.”
In 2019, he left PRS and joined PSB. Last December saw him contesting as a PSB candidate for the Balai Ringin constituency in the 12th state election. He lost to Snowdan.
Meanwhile, PSB has yet to issue any official response to Masir’s decision to quit the party. – The Vibes, April 1, 2022
