GEORGE TOWN – Southwest district police and the Marine Police Department have arrested a local man and a foreigner, as well as seizing RM756,720 worth of methamphetamines.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Shuihaily Mohd Zain said the police raided a house in Teluk Kumbar on Tuesday and seized 20 packets of methamphetamines weighing a total of 21.02kg and, in a follow-up operation, police arrested another man in the same area.

“Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate has been active since the beginning of the year. One of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, whereas the other has a drug related criminal record.”

Both the suspects are aged between 35 and 44, and have been detained for seven days for investigations.

Suhaily said police have also seized a vehicle worth RM10,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and if convicted, the offenders may face mandatory death sentences or life imprisonment and whipping no fewer than 15 times. – The Vibes, April 1, 2022
